Last week I uploaded book 1 with 100 lessons to learn Chinese characters.  I have just uploaded book 2 of the 3 book series.  With a few basic strokes you can write hundreds and thousands of Chinese characters.    Recognizing the commonalities of certain characters can help you learn.  Book 2 also contains fully illustrated pictures and pinyin with colored strokes of the characters.  Click here to download book 2.

Free Chinese Word a Day

Share

I recently found a free tool for learning a new Chinese word each day from Innovative Language.  I like how it includes examples of sentences and phrases with audio for each Chinese word.  A challenge in learning Chinese is learning how to use the language in authentic situations.   With more examples, you can have real opportunities to see how to use the Chinese word.  For example, learning characters is important but we usually don’t use single characters in modern spoken Mandarin.  In modern spoken Mandarin, we tend to use dual syllable words.   For example: even though 桌 zhuō means table, you need to add the noun suffix 子 zǐ to 桌 zhuō to make the word 桌子 zhuōzi for table in modern spoken Mandarin.  I have added this learning Chinese word tool to my Free Goodies page.
