My mom is the one making the Chinese tamales 粽子 pronounced zòngzi in the video. We use reed leaves (soaked in water), pork (marinated in cooking wine and soy sauce with a touch of brown sugar), and uncooked glutinous rice (mixed with soy sauce). You can see my mom wrapping the 粽子 after stuffing rice and pork inside the reed leaves and tying each one with a sturdy string. 粽子 need to be boiled in water for 1.5-2 hours. Eat them now or freeze for reheated for future enjoyment. Different regions in China have their own recipes and may put other ingredients inside 粽子.
